There are moments when a dream begins to take root, and our first Rhythmic Circle was one of those moments.
Eight of us gathered together beneath the trees on a beautiful summer evening to share rhythm, creativity, conversation, and community. As we formed a circle, we celebrated the beginning of something I have envisioned for a long time- a creative healing space where people can reconnect with themselves, one another, and the natural world.
I began by sharing the philosophy behind Casita Irizarry: Healing Through Art, Nature, and the Five Elements. I spoke about my intention to create an intimate environment where every participant feels seen, heard, and valued. By intentionally limiting the size of our gatherings, we create space for meaningful participation, authentic connection, and a sense of safety that allows everyone to contribute in their own way.
Our circle came alive through a wonderful variety of instruments. Drums, shakers, rhythmic sticks, stones, and pieces of metal shaped and transformed by the ocean all found their place in our shared music. Every participant had the opportunity to lead the rhythm, reminding us that each person carries a unique voice and that every rhythm contributes something meaningful to the whole.
Our conversations naturally flowed toward the Five Elements. We reflected on the elements we feel most connected to, those that inspire us, and those that may feel unfamiliar or even intimidating. Together, we explored how these elements can become invitations for personal growth. Sometimes healing begins by embracing the parts of ourselves we already know; other times, it begins by gently stepping toward what feels unknown.
Surrounded by trees, birdsong, fresh air, and the beauty of the natural world, we experienced how rhythm can bring people together without judgement or expectation. Some participants immersed themselves in creating music, while others listened deeply, moved with rhythm, or simply enjoyed being present in the circle. Every way of participating was welcome and honored.
To everyone who joined this first gathering, thank you for helping bring this vision to life. Your presence, your stories, your rhythm, your openess became part of the foundation of Casita Irizarry.
This is only the beginning, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.
